Day 1: Introduction to Advertising Cinematography

    – Discuss differences between advertising cinematography and other forms, emphasizing concise storytelling and the importance of visually impactful messaging.

    – Define terms such as “high key lighting,” “product focus,” and “consumer engagement” with examples of successful ad campaigns.

Day 2: Introduction to Lighting in Advertising Cinematography

  • Lighting Equipment Overview
    – Introduction to lighting tools commonly used in commercial shoots, including softboxes, LED panels, reflectors, and spotlights.
    – In-depth discussion on each equipment type, its function, and usage for different visual effects in ads.
  • Creating Mood and Product Focus
    – Learn how lighting setups affect mood, draw attention to product features, and influence consumer perception.
    – Discussion on controlling light intensity, direction, and color temperature for various scenarios.
  • Managing Shadows and Product Focus
    – Techniques for shadow control, avoiding glare, and maintaining the product as the scene’s focal point.

Day 3: Practical Application by Instructor

  • Live Lighting Demonstration for Commercial Scene
    – The instructor demonstrates a full setup for lighting a commercial scene, emphasizing technical aspects like light placement, intensity adjustment, and color balancing.
    – Showcases the impact of lighting choices on the overall mood and product appearance, covering common challenges like shadows, reflections, and glare.
  • Experimenting with Different Setups
    – Participants are encouraged to interact with the lighting equipment, observing the effects of minor adjustments in real-time.

Day 4: Practical Session by Students

Group Lighting Exercise

  • Independent Group Practice
    – Participants are divided into three groups to independently light a commercial scene, applying their learnings to create a polished, product-focused setup.
    – Each group has the freedom to experiment, with the instructor providing feedback and guidance.
  • Recap and Q&A Session
    ○ A final review of key concepts covered in the workshop, reinforcing the main techniques and principles.
    ○ Q&A session to address lingering questions, challenges faced during group exercises, and practical tips for real-world applications.
