IN THIS WORKSHOP
The workshop focuses on creative and technical challenges in cinematography. It will explore shooting locations, preparing the appropriate equipment for the required scene, and solving difficult lighting situations to achieve the desired visual aesthetics. The main goal of the training is to develop filmmakers’
understanding of lighting to enhance the image and create depth within it to support the story, addressing questions like: “When?”, “How?”, and “Which options are more practical?”

Practical Sessions
The practical program of the workshop consists of 8 sessions, focusing on the actual application of concepts through 3 stages, distributed across the sessions as follows:
- Stage 1:
Shooting a Scene with a Static Camera:- This part focuses on mastering camera stability and adjusting lighting and angles to achieve the best fixed shots.
- Stage 2:
Shooting a Scene with Actors in Motion and a Static Camera:- Participants learn how to shoot scenes that involve movement within the frame while keeping the camera stable, organizing actors’ movements, and managing lighting effectively.
- Stage 3:
Shooting a Scene with Actors in Motion and a Moving Camera:- This stage focuses on capturing dynamic shots where the camera moves in sync with the actors, ensuring coordination between their movements and the camera to maintain visual and narrative balance. Students will practice using a dolly for this exercise, enhancing their ability to execute smooth, controlled tracking shots
- Shooting a Scene Inside a Car with Lighting Adjustments:
- Applying innovative lighting techniques to simulate shooting inside a car, with changes in lighting to create different effects that reflect realistic lighting conditions. Shooting with Chroma (Green Screen):
- Learning how to use chroma key technology to shoot with a green screen, and adding visual elements in post-production to create complex scenes.
Final Two Days with Mahmoud Lotfi:
In the final two days, participants will apply the skills they’ve learned by shooting scenes either inspired by previous films or from their own imagination.
- Shooting Night Scenes with Artificial Lighting to Simulate Daylight (Day for Night):
- Focusing on lighting techniques that simulate daylight using professional nighttime lighting equipment, an essential technique in many film productions.
During the final session of the workshop, students will have the opportunity to experiment with various professional lighting setups using an Alexa camera.
