Acting with the Whole Self Workshop

All individuals interested in joining the “Acting With the Whole Self” workshop are required to participate in an e-meeting interview with Laurance Rudic as part of the selection process.

In this workshop, participants will learn to fully immerse themselves in the dramatic experience by cultivating internal awareness of the present moment within their body, senses, emotions, and thoughts. This internal exploration serves as the foundation for authentic character portrayal and self-discovery. Through heightened body awareness, actors will develop a tangible and adaptable communication tool, enabling true and immediate expression in performance.

Part 1 (6 sessions):

  • Develop body-centered thinking and awareness through movement exercises.
  • Increase sensitivity to thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations.
  • Engage with ‘live’ emotions to enhance expressiveness.
  • Act out powerful emotional scenes to deepen dramatic range.

Part 2 (6 sessions):

  • Further explore body awareness in the context of dramatic scenarios.
  • Apply techniques learned to practical acting situations.
  • Final performances will be filmed on the last day of the workshop.

Language: Workshop conducted primarily in English, with support in Arabic.

About Laurance Rudic

Laurance Rudic is an accomplished actor, performance artist, and educator with a rich and diverse background. His journey into the world of theater began at a young age, starring in his first play at just eight years old. By 16, he was already playing leading roles in BBC film dramas, demonstrating his early talent and passion for performance.

 

During his time at acting school, Laurance honed his skills by focusing on intuitive acting, emphasizing the expression of emotion and character through the body and senses. After graduating, he joined a prestigious repertory theater company in Glasgow, Scotland, known for nurturing young actors. Over the course of twenty-five years with this company, Laurance refined his creative process, developing a unique approach that prioritized emotional flexibility and artistic innovation.

Throughout his career, Laurance collaborated with renowned actors and theater companies across the

UK, including Sir Ian McKellen’s Company at the Royal National Theatre and Dame Glenda Jackson in London’s West End. His passion for travel and exploration led him on adventurous journeys, from immersing himself in Arab music and culture in Egypt and Morocco to embarking on an epic overland trip from Scotland to the Himalayas via Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.

In 1999, Laurance’s fascination with Egyptian performing arts drew him to Cairo, where he spent two decades working closely with various groups, including the American University in Cairo and the Cairo Opera Company. During this time, he developed and led workshops based on his unique acting process, becoming deeply engaged in the local arts scene.

Now based in Berlin, Laurance continues to share his expertise and passion for acting, regularly returning to Cairo to conduct workshops at Arab Film School. His lifelong dedication to artistic exploration and cross-cultural exchange underscores his enduring impact on the world of theater and performance.

    50% of the workshop fees confirm your registration, if you did not pay before we get the maximum number of participants, your registration is not valid.

  • Payment Process:

    • 5000 EGP deposit required before the e-meeting with Laurance Rudic (refundable if rejected).
    • Upon acceptance, an additional 5000 EGP is required.
    • The remaining 10.000 EGP is due on the workshop starting date.

  • Refund Policy

    • Before two weeks of the workshop starting date participants will get a full-refund.
    • During the last two weeks before the workshop starting date participants will get a 50% refund of the total price.
    • One week before the workshop starting date participants can not refund their payment.
